I just found this today. I think it looks promising. Scour is a new search engine that will search Google, Yahoo, and MSN; allows you to rate the results; and to add a comment to any search term. Plus, (they say) that they will allow you to earn points for your searches that you can turn in for a pre-paid Visa card. (I'm not sure about that one... I'm not holding my breath. But I will say this, I do like the format of how it returns the information from all three search engines (along with rankings). It's a neat concept to also be able to add comments and 'thumbs-up/down' to the search results.

I’m Still Alive… Just ‘Retreating’
Sorry for the lack of updates this week... I've been at a staff leadership retreat for Leadership Network this week in the Cascade Mountains in Washington State. It's beautiful here; but I just haven't had time to keep up with MMI. I will have about 3,000 blog posts to go through when I return, so hopefully next week will be a good week of new stuff here at MMI... so stay tuned. I take the redeye back to Detroit (then the two hour trip back home) tonight. Hopefully I'll hit the driveway by 4:00 a.m. tomorrow! Read the full post here...
“Hardcore Heaven”
Sorry for the lack of updates this week... it's been quite a time around here! Busy, busy, busy! But anyway...I'm glad that we solve our problems in church with a little more grace than they do in the wrestling ring. Well, at least most times...
Have a great weekend! Read the full post here...
It's been a big week for some... and here are their stories...
Today’s Buzz: Excommunicated; Gun Giveaway; Charismatic Civil War; I Love Big Crosses & I Cannot Lie
Like the mormon guy who decided to publish a shirtless calendar of mormon missionary hunks. Uh-huh... he got excommunicated.
Or the Oklahoma church who has reluctantly decided NOT to give away a semi-automatic weapon at their youth conference. (I guess someone shot down that idea).
Or the church in Houston that wants to spend a gizillion dollars to build a couple of really big crosses and a prayer room forty feet off the ground so people can pray for the city. (My mind wonders... why 40 feet? Why not 50 or 38?)
All this an more in Today's Buzz... Read the full post here...

In his book, Practicing Greatness, Reggie McNeal discusses how great leaders need to stay very sharp mentally. Reggie gives us several ways that we can keep our brain chemistry healthy. Some are simple. Others take a little more effort:![]()
How to Stay Mentally Vibrant in Ministry
• Adequate sleep (a sleep-hungry brain is subject to fuzzy thinking and poor judgment)
• Proper Diet (especially a good amount of protein)
• Moderate your use of alcohol, caffeine, nicotine (don’t use these to ‘medicate your anxiety’
• Adequate exercise (helps physically, but also mentally)
• Daily doses of positive human contact (leaders who are connected are keeping their brains ‘wired’)
• Mental recreation (It helps from making your thoughts dull and tired)
• Muse time (time to ponder, noodle, reflect)
A very powerful testimony... you'll want to watch and meet Betty:

“Hardcore Heaven”
Have a great weekend!
Recently, Malcolm Gladwell opened up the New Yorker Conference. His comments to the conference were supposed to be on "reinventing invention". In reality, he talks more about the practice of hiring good people in today's marketplace. This has some great implications and ideas for church work as well...

Malcolm Gladwell on the Challenges of Hiring Good People
Both NewSpring and Mars Hill Seattle added new campuses this last weekend. Mars Hill's new Bellevue campus had over 1,000 people in attendance. New Spring's Greenville campus hosted over 1,700 people. According to Perry Noble, they were hoping for around a 1,000 their first week. And most surprising was that their Anderson campus was also UP in attendance for the weekend. Great job to both Perry and Mark Driscoll and their teams for a great weekend and starts of new works that will no doubt influence many people and bring many new converts to the body of Christ over the next years in their communities...

Two New Church Campuses This Weekend: 2,700 People
Dan Kimball includes a couple of letters in a recent blog post that I found interesting. Not sure if these can be substantiated as fact, but take a look... it sounds about right...

I Am No Music Scholar… but…
"I am no music scholar, but I feel I know appropriate church music when I hear it. Last Sunday's new hymn - if you can call it that - sounded like a sentimental love ballad one would expect to hear crooned in a saloon. If you insist on exposing us to rubbish like this - in God's house! - don't be surprised if many of the faithful look for a new place to worship. The hymns we grew up with are all we need."
Of course, this letter was written in 1863, and the song they were talking about was "Just as I Am". Here's another one...

I've been asked by my friend and fellow Leadership Network colleague to pass on this question. We're looking for any large churches that used to hold Sunday only services that have recently added a Saturday night service. There is a church of a couple thousand who is hoping to make the leap, and would like to talk with similar churches who have already done so. Are there any churches in your area who fit into this category? If so, could you please help?

Help! Do You Know of Any Large Churches Who’ve Recently Added Saturday Night Services?
I'm a chronic workaholic, love to connect leaders with other leaders, and would consider myself somewhat of a 'maven'. Hopefully you'll find something here at MMI you'll like and will return often. If you want, you can find out more about me or follow my every step.
